The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is probably the most important change in data privacy regulation since the internet became globally available.
The aim of the GDPR is to protect all EU citizens from privacy and data breaches in the modern scenarios that have evolved since 1995 when directive was originally established.
Fixel is inherently a GDPR compliant solution as it adheres to certain rules of thumb:
- Privacy by Design
- Right to Erasure
- Easy Opt out
Privacy By Design
No Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of the user is stored by Fixel (including the user’s IP address). This means that all data collected by Fixel is completely anonymous and cannot be traced back to a specific user.
Additionally, the cookie identifier used by Fixel expires after a period of two years (similar to Google Analytics cookie). This means a user returning to the site after a period longer than two years will be considered as a new user entirely.
Right To Erasure
Fixel identifies a returning user by their a random identifier stored in a browser cookie. Deleting the browser cookies will make all data collected on the user irrelevant.
Any site owner using Fixel can provide users with a button to delete the Fixel cookie specifically from their browser.
These can be easily generated with the “Forget Me Snippet” in the Fixel Console.
Easy Opt out
By implementing the “Forget Me Snippet” snippet, users can block the Fixel script from collecting any data about them.
